Having cancer is NOT always a death sentence!

There are people who survive cancer.  There are cancer survivors.  These are the people who were diagnosed and treated for cancer and who got cured.

Cure can be defined in two ways ( my personal opinions as there is no universally agreed definition):

One is having no recurrence for a long period (say 5 years or more) at the time of the person’s death, the person dying of another cause other than cancer.

Another one is having no recurrence for a long period of time (usually set at 10 years) in which the chances of recurrence are almost nil and the patient is still living.  This period of no recurrence is called remission.

So, having cancer is NOT always a death sentence!
