I have been utilizing online and digital tools for group communication since 1999 (Yahoogroups – Educational for Health Development in the Philippines and UPCM74). In 2002, I created the Yahoogroup for Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center Department of Surgery which contributed to the winning of the Department of the Asian Hospital Management Awards in 2004 – Knowledge Management System). In 2003, I created the Yahoogroup for the Senior Management Team of Manila Doctors Hospital. In 2006, I created the Yahoogroup for GS1 of the Department of Surgery of Philippine General Hospital and the Safety Promotion and Disaster Preparedness Committee of Manila Doctors Hospital. All in all, I think I have created a total of about 30 email groups (both Yahoogroups and Googlegroups). I think in 2012, I shifted to Googlegroups because I could not just add names into the Yahoogroups anymore.
In 2011, I started using Facebook Groups for group communication.
I used cellphones (digital) to complement the online group communication when there are urgent messages to transmit. Also, for online teaching, I created websites to complement group learning.
There are now a lot of media or tools for online and digital group communication. Most, if not all, of them are free save the Internet access (free if there is Wi-Fi). These tools consist of the following: group emailing – Yahoogroups and Googlegroups; Facebook Groups; Viber-groups; cellphones; Twitter; Asana; etc.
I find the online and digital group communication very useful and efficient for group communication; group interaction; collaborative and interactive learning; teaching; coordination; information dissemination; and networking. I recommend you use it if you need to do group communication.
I have been using it for my online Education for Health Development in the Philippines program since 1999.
