Why do Christians observe Lent?

When Christians make small sacrifices such as giving up food and giving away alms, they detach themselves from the things that they tend to love too much, thus, making more room in their lives for God.

Lent is observed in the forty days before Easter, developed as a way of recalling Jesus Christ’s own forty days and nights of fasting in the wilderness while He prayed and battled with the devil.
