Breast Cancer Survivor Bernardita Vergara – 23 Years in Remission

Ms. Bernardita Vergara was 40 years old in 1990 when I did an operation (modified radical mastectomy) on her breast cancer (invasive ductal carcinoma with papillary component with negative armpit nodes) in Manila Doctors Hospital.  She did not receive any postoperative treatment such as chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, or radiotherapy.  I saw her lately and she has no clinical evidence of recurrence.  She is now 63 years old, 23 years in remission.  We both thank God for this long remission.
