(ROJ-BCAW) Presence of a Disease Known as Breast Cancer – 12oct6

ROJoson’s Breast Cancer Awareness Write-up (ROJ-BCAW-11oct2-12oct6)

Objective:

The Filipino community is made aware of the presence of a disease known as breast cancer.

There is a disease known as breast cancer (or malignant breast neoplasm) afflicting human beings.

Breast cancer is a cancer involving the breasts (or more specifically, the breast tissues) of human beings.  Cancer is a disease in which abnormal cells grow in an uncontrolled way with the potential to invade surrounding body tissues and to spread to other organs in the body.

Any human being who has a breast and breasts can be afflicted with breast cancer.  S/he is at risk of being afflicted with breast cancer all throughout her / his lifetime on earth.

Regardless of race, nationality, and country of origin, all human beings with a breast and breasts can be afflicted with breast cancer.  The incidence just varies from continent to continent and from country to country.

In general, incidence rates are high in Western and Northern Europe, Australia/New Zealand, and North America; intermediate in South America, the Caribbean, and Northern Africa; and low in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. (Source: http://globocan.iarc.fr/factsheets/cancers/all.asp)

Iceland has a recorded highest incidence of breast cancer worldwide at 39.4 per 100,000 females. (Source: http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/hea_bre_can_inc-health-breast-cancer-incidence)

The Philippines has a recorded incidence of breast cancer at 31.9 per 100,000 females. (Source: http://chartsbin.com/view/yq6)

Both female and male human beings with a breast and breasts can be afflicted with breast cancer.   Breast cancer, though, is more common among females than in males, about 100 times more frequent. (Source: http://www.iarc.fr/en/publications/pdfs-online/wcr/2008/wcr_2008.pdf)

Breast cancer can occur in any breast size, whether big or small, as breast cancer arises from a change in one single breast cell.

Breast cancer can occur at any age of a living human being, though it is more common in older persons, about 40 years and older.

So, worldwide, the Philippines included, there is such a disease known as breast cancer and it can affect any living human being with a breast and breasts.  The incidence varies from continent to continent, from country to country, in the two different sexes, and in the different age groups.
