Today, September 3, 2012, I attended the regular Monday Quality Management Hour in Manila Doctors Hospital.
The topic was Performance Excellence.
Dr. Bernadette Hogar and Dr. Manuel Villegas were discussing Performance Excellence, Baldrige Health Care Criteria for Performance Excellence, and the Philippine Quality Awards. The two together with Ms. Farrah Rocamora just finished attending a one-week PQA Assessor Workshop from August 20 to 24, 2012, in Tagaytay.
Aside from orienting, Dindi and Manny were trying to convince the division heads and middle managers present to go for the Philippine Quality Awards. I decided to help them.
With the help of Dr. Terrence Cham’s iPad, I was able to retrieve a slide that I made in June 22, 2012 from the Net. I made this slide when I gave a lecture to the students and faculty of Ateneo Professional Schools on delivering excellent hospital services. It depicted MDH Journey to Excellence from 1999 to present. I used this slide to give all those present in the conference room an idea of the MDH Journey to Excellence, when it started, how far it has gone, and I told them that the end-point should be getting the Philippine Quality Awards.
I convinced them of the importance of getting the Philippine Quality Awards. I told them not to think of the PQA as another distinct chore like the other accreditation projects that MDH has gone into. What is needed is just refinements of what they are doing in fulfilling the requirements of ISO, PhilHealth Benchbook, and Accreditation Canada International.
Everybody in the audience agreed to my proposal to continue the journey and this time to get the PQA by late 2013 or 2014 at the latest. As a sign of agreement to the proposal, we had a group picture taking. It was agreed by those present that September 3, 2012 marks the start of renewed effort toward a journey of excellence targeting the Philippine Quality Awards.
The Manila Doctors Hospital Performance Excellence Coordinating Team created sometime in 2010 will continue to be the steering team.
