Throat Cancer Survivor Carmelita Catanghal – 15 Years in Remission
Ms. Carmelita Catanghal was diagnosed by me to have a throat cancer (laryngeal – hypopharyngeal cancer) in 1997, when she was 48 years old. I operated on her at the Philippine General Hospital . I did total pharyngo-laryngo-esophagectomy (TPLO) with a gastric pull-up. See description of the operation in Tagalog below as narrated by her brother, Ricky. Lately, I received this picture of hers from Ricky with a report that she is good health. Ms. Catanghal, 63 years old now, is currently residing in Nevada, Las Vegas. She is in remission for 15 years now. We both thank God for this long remission.
In July 2017, I was told by her relative that Ms. Catanghal died on July 10, 2017 because of metastatic liver cancer of unknown primary complicated by pneumonia. She was in remission for 20 years for her hypopharyngeal cancer before she died of another cause.
