Knowing Cost of an Operation to Facilitate an Informed Decision

Before subjecting oneself to an operation (surgical procedure), one should inquire on its cost.  Basically, the cost is classified into hospital or health care facility cost and the cost of the services rendered by the health care professionals, particularly the physicians.

The cost will vary from one patient to another in terms of the extent of operation to be done and associated medical condition; from one hospital or health care facility to another in terms of their charging system; and from one health care professional to another in terms of their professional fees and their surgical management system.

As a public service, I am sharing a sample of a cost of an operation called excision of a breast mass, fibroadenoma, done under local anesthesia and outpatient basis in Manila Doctors Hospital.

 

This sharing will give the public an idea how much may be the expenses for such an operation.  I have to emphasize this is just a sample and it does not include the professional fees and the PhilHealth benefits.  The cost may be different for another patient, operated in another hospital or health care facility, and /or handled by another surgeon.

I welcome exchange of information on how much is the usual cost of such an operation in the different hospitals or health care facilities in the Philippines, particularly in Metro Manila.  Just the cost from the hospital or health care facility.

As I said earlier, knowing the cost of an operation will facilitate an informed decision, particularly, where to have the operation done.
