by Reynaldo O Joson on Monday, August 22, 2011 at 7:44pm

I am now in Hanoi as part of a team of facilitators conducting a training course on health emergency exercises.  The course will run from August 22 to 26, 2011.

Today, August 22, 2011 is the first day of the course.  I was suddenly asked to give a welcome remarks on behalf of the facilitators.

Here are my notes.

Training Course on Hospital and Health Facility Emergency Exercises

August 22-26, 2011

Welcome Remarks On Behalf of the Facilitators

Reynaldo O. Joson, MD

On behalf of the facilitators, I welcome you all to this Regional Training Course on Hospital and Health Facility Emergency Exercises.

The facilitators consist of the following:

Dr. Gary Choa – Course Director and Coordinator

Dr. Vu Quang Hieu

Dr. Ha Van Nhu

Dr. Nguyen Thanh

Dr. Ellen Licup

Yours truly – Dr. Reynaldo Joson

The facilitators will be introduced in more details later on.

Let me give you a short background on the preparation of the course.

The Health and Hospital Emergency Exercises – A Guidance Material was completed sometime in early part of 2010.

There was a decision to conduct a course based on the Material.

Dr Gary Choa was asked by WPRO to be the course director.  He came up with a 5-day curriculum with drafts on powerpoints, hand-outs, lesson plans, etc.

After that, the team of facilitators was formed.

For about 3 months, from June to August, the facilitators prepared for the course online as they are from different countries, Singapore, Vietnam, and Philippines.  There were a lot of revisions, changes on the drafts and interactions among the facilitators , even up to one day before the course today.  The facilitators really wanted to ensure that they can make your learning easy and enjoyable.

Today, we are happy to see that there are 22 participants representing 8 hospitals in Vietnam who are interested in this course.  I hope you were NOT forced to attend.  You are really interested and committed to learn from this course.

Let me make a survey.  Those of you who came here to attend the course want to make your hospital safe from  disaster.  Stand up if your answer is YES. (All participants  stood up.)

So, again, on behalf of the facilitators, I welcome you to this course.  We will try our best to facilitate this course and meet your expectations.

We hope that by the end of the course, you will be able to use whatever you learn from this course in your respective hospitals and make your hospitals safe from disasters.

Thank you.
