Breast Cancer Survivor Feliciana Ruiz – 12 years

Ms. Feliciana Ruiz, now 74 years old, is a breast cancer survivor for 12 years now.  In 1999, I operated on her in Manila Doctors Hospital.  She was 62 years old then.  I did a total mastectomy with axillary sampling.  The histopath showed a 2-cm invasive ductal carcinoma with nodes negative for spread.  No additional treatment was given after the operation then.  No tests for ER, PR, and HER-2-NEU were done.  Three years after, 2002, she had a recurrence on her armpit or axilla, for which I did a second operation, this time, an axillary dissection.  One out 17 nodes harvested showed positive spread.  Thereafter, she took tamoxifen for 5 years.  She is currently in remission, 12 years after the first operation and 9 years after the second operation.  We both thank God for the result of her treatment.  She is now preparing to be with her children abroad.
