Breast Cancer Survivor Edna Sheker – 20 Years in Remission

Ms. Edna Sheker is a breast cancer survivor.  I operated on her in April, 1992 when she was 42 years old.  She is now 62 years old.  I did a total mastectomy and axillary (armpit) dissection.  Histopathology results showed invasive ductal carcinoma, 4 cm in size, with armpit nodes positive for spread in 6 out of 15.  She underwent chemotherapy (first line – cyclophosphamide, methotrexate, and 5-fluorouracil for 8 months).  Her estrogen receptor assay was positive.  She did not receive tamoxifen or any hormonal treatment.  She is now 20 years in remission.  We both thank God for this remission.
